SteelEye LifeKeeper

Leading High Availability and Disaster Recovery Solution

Choosing LifeKeeper Components

HA Clustering by SteelEye LifeKeeper requires LifeKeeper core software to each cluster node. Core LifeKeeper provides normal IP failover clustering which itself is enough for many needs.

Application level clustering support is achieved by installing required LifeKeeper ARKs (Application Recovery Kit) to each cluster node that will support that particular application. Pricing is done per node or server (not by processor for example).

There are two kinds of LifeKeeper core software:

  1. LifeKeeper (core): When using a shared storage, or when actual data replication is not required.
  2. LifeKeeper with Data Replication: When there is not shared storage (Clustering is done using two independent servers)

Examples of required LifeKeeper components

2-node Linux cluster (with shared storage) running Oracle requires LifeKeeper components:

  • 2 x LifeKeeper for Linux
  • 2 x Oracle ARK

2-node Linux cluster (with shared storage) running Oracle and LVM requires LifeKeeper components:

  • 2 x LifeKeeper for Linux
  • 2 x Oracle ARK
  • 2 x Logical Volume Manager ARK

2-node Linux cluster (with shared storage) running Apache and DB2 requires LifeKeeper components:

  • 2 x LifeKeeper for Linux
  • 2 x DB2 ARK
  • 2 x Apache ARK

2-node Samba Linux cluster (without shared storage) requires LifeKeeper components:

  • 2 x LifeKeeper for Linux with data replication
  • 2 x Samba ARK

3-node Linux cluster (without shared storage) running only Apache (replication not required) requires LifeKeeper components:

  • 3 x LifeKeeper for Linux
  • 3 x Apache ARK

4-node shared storage Linux cluster. In this case Sendmail continuity is very crucial (ARK installed in each node). MySQL is installed in 3 nodes, Apache is installed in 2 nodes:

  • 4 x LifeKeeper for Linux
  • 2 x Apache ARK
  • 3 x MySQL ARK
  • 4 x Sendmail ARK

3-node Windows cluster (with shared storage) running SQL requires LifeKeeper components:

  • 3 x LifeKeeper for Windows
  • 3 x SQL ARK

2-node Windows HA cluster (without shared storage) running SQL requires LifeKeeper components:

  • 2 x LifeKeeper for Windows with data replication
  • 2 x SQL ARK
